The War and Peace Show
This years War and Peace Show takes place from the 18th July to the 22nd July. The event is held annually at the Hop Farm and 2012 sees the show celebrate its 30th year, meaning this year will be bigger and better than ever.
The War and Peace Show is the worlds largest military vehicle and militaria collectors fair, with over 3500 military vehicles on display. It offers visitors a chance to relive history and view old military memorabilia. However, don’t be fooled into thinking this is any ordinary show, it is in fact an experience. The Hop Farm itself is a fantastic location for the show, built in the early 1900’s, the buildings recreate the war time experience perfectly and with its acres of land there is more than enough space for the 10,000 people who visit the show each year.
The main arena hold displays throughout the week, including but not limited to military tank demonstrations, 1940’s cookery demonstrations, battle re-enactments and 40’s fashion shows. There is something for everyone in the main arena over the week.
Whilst it is the biggest military vehicle show in the world, don’t be fooled into thinking this show is all about the vehicles. Away from the main arena, there is a huge marquee which plays 40’s music throughout the week, also hosting traditional tea dances and bands playing in the evening. As well as the tea dances, there is a market at the show selling vintage items.
It is traditional at the War and Peace Show to dress for the part. Mad Hatters Fancy Dress has costumes for both males and females to wear at the show. For the women we have got the 1940’s nurse costume which would have been worn by the brave medical staff during the war. We have also got the ‘Forces Sweetheart Girl’ which is a bit different to the regular uniforms. If you simply want 1940’s period dress you could wear one of our flowered 1940’s dresses.
When it comes to the War and Peace Show the male outfits are actually easier to choose from. As its a military show, the men can simply dress up in military uniform. The male Army uniform offers a smart alternative to modern combat dress. This uniform is very vintage and is an exact replica of what would have been worn by the troops in the 1940’s. An alternative to the army uniform is the RAF uniform which come in different ranks. Again, this is a very smart costume and identical to the 1940’s uniform.
If you are going to the War and Peace Show, make sure you order your uniform as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
